HELP FOR WHEAT GROWERS
('Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, February 3. The “Pictorial” says:—“To save from financial disaster thousands of primary producers, whose credits are at an end, the Commonwealth Bank is to be asked immediately by Cabinet chiefs for . £5,000,000 and the request is almost certain to be granted. The money is sought for the purposes of assisting wheat growers particularly, with their creditors and provide funds to enable them to sow next year's crops.” FEDERAL DEFICIT. CANBERRA,' February 3. A deficit of at least ten mililon sterling for the Commonwealth at the enc! of the financial year appears certain. The figures show for (he seven months ended January 31., the Customs revenue was £5,334,516 and postal revenue was £1,016,401 less than the estimates.
ADELAIDE, Feb. 8. Premier Hill told a deputiubit it was probable the accumulated deficit of the various Governments) would amount to £20,000,000 on June 50th next and £11,000,000 would represent the undebtedness of the Federal Government. The financial position was becoming more embarrasing every day, although a large section of the public failed to realise it.
