Niue stowaways on the steamer Treherbort charged at Swansea, pleaded guilty. The owners counsel said it was. undertstood that conditions in Australia were very bad, hut the stowaway business was becoming such an intolerable nuisance and expense to ship-owners that he was instructed to prosecute in every ease. Evidence was given that the men were discovered when a day out Irom Western Australia. The Captain put them to work and they gave no trouble throughout- the trip. Each told a moving story of conditions in Western Australia. They had tramped hundreds of miles seeking work.
The Magistrate sympathised with their plight and in consideration that they had worked and behaved well, sentenced them to ten days imprisonment.
