Brazil's dream of the conquest of the Amazon Jungles, through the efficient exploitation of the rubber resources by Henry Ford, appears to have eollap.srd. Advices from Para statesMr Ford, after spending millions, is unable to combat native antagonism to the efficiency methods and is giving up the experiment on the Tapajos river. Employees were recently reduced from three thousand to lwo hundred. Some Americans have resigned, while others, assigned to an Australian piut now in Para, are waiting transportation. Among the methods to which the natives objected, it is understood, are tlie punching time clock and standing in line for food. The eviction of former tenants, as the clearing proceeded, also led to antagonism late last year. It is necessary to send police by aeroplane from Para to quell native rioters, who marched on the farm with pitch forks, guns and farm implements.
