Jones, M.P., chairman of the Meat Board, and Mr Jorns, chairman of the Dairy Produce Board, and other representatives from both bodies, waited to-day on the Prime Minister, Mr Forbes, requesting that the Government should take immediate action to relieve the plight of the primary producers. The proceedings were not open to te press. Mr F orbes thanked the deputation for its suggestions. An inquest into tilt; death of Maxwell Croskery, aged 26. salesman, of Wellington, who died under an anaesthetic in a private hospital this morning, was opened, and was adjourned to permit of a post mortem examination being made. A. W. Croskery, of Wellington, said that his son had been under treatment in Auckland, Wellington, and Haunter Springs j and had been removed to Lewisham Hospital at the end of December to undergo an operation. The operating surgeon, Dr Stanley Foster, told witness that his son’s trouble was a tumour on the brain. The pressure had been relieved by taking a portion of it away, hut a further operation was necessary. The second operation was to have taken place to-day, but his son died under the anaesthetic.

DEATH IX DENTAL ROOM

AUCKLAND, January 28

While under an anaesthetic for the purpose of having teeth extracted. Thomas Henry Gossan, aged 16 years, whose parents reside at Ellerslie died at dental rooms in Symonds Street this morning. Dr W. G. Carew and the hoy's mother, who is a nurse were in attendance.

The official ceremony of opening 11 1. • • new Dominion Fertiliser Works at. R.avenshourne was performed to-dav bv the Minister of Agriculture in the presence of several hundred people representative of the farming eommunit” and local bodies. The buildings and the adjacent land cover an area exceeding eight acres of Harbour Board lease. The main building is 600 feet long, and 60 feet in height. The factory is designed to turn out 70.000 tons of 14.4(> superphosphate ]>er annum.

According to a story told in the Police Court. Frank Walter Barnes stocked a shop in Auckland with weed killer. and -other goods obtained on credit and appointed Nahum Seth Cassrels, as manager, at £4 a week, and commission. Ho represented to Cassrels that he was a manufacturer of the weed killer, and obtained from him a bond of ,£4O for a partnership, lmt later lie disappeared with this and money from the shop. Charged with ialso pretences, he was to-dav sentenced by AL- Page. S.M.. to two years’ reformative detention, and on two other eh ages of theft, to come up if called upon within two years. Accused had a long list of previous convictions.

FATAL ELECTRIC SHOCK

PALMERSTON NORTH, Jan. 28

While working on an electric light pole in Featherston Street, on Tuesday Joseph Alfred Cole, aged 40. an employee of the electrical department of the City Council, adjusting a safety belt, came into contact with a 230 volt wire, eighteen feet from the ground. Receiving an electric shock he fell to the ground sustaining injuries to his skull. He was removed to the hospital, succumbing early this morning.

KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR

HAMILTON, January 2n.

Knocked down by a car in Victoria Street late last, evening. Noel Cameron Maddox, a chemist of Princes street Xorthcote, Auckland, sustained a severe fracture- of the skull. His condition is serious.

The committee of the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club, after serious consideration of the Clubs position, has called a special general meeting of-members for Thursday next to decide, owing to the general financial stringency and lack of funds, whether it should hold any more race meetings this year.
