ASHORE AND AFIRE

WELLINGTON, Jan. 28
The Secretary of the General Post Office advises that a radio was received from the motor vessel E'nton at 5.26 this morning stating, a fire had broken out in No. 4 hold or-the aft, hatch, in the case oil cargo.
A further message received from the Enton at 5.53 stated the vessel was ashore approximately 22.50 south 176.45 east-south-east of New Caledonia. on a reef, and was making water badly.
A report received from Sydney radio at 6.12 a.m. announced the Enton was ashore thirty . miles south-east of Amidee, New Caledonia and requires assistance immediately. The E'nton was bound to Noumea, New Caledonia, from Lyttelton.
