The toilriiiy American athletes appeared in Napier on Saturday afternoon puttiiiy: up some good perlonnanees. iu the shot put. Harlow Rotliert made a throw of 4/ lent 5 inches, which betters the Australian and New Zealand record of I*. Monro of 40 It. 04 inches. He also threw the javelin IR2 ft. 4in., and the discus between 138 and 140 ft., the latter being stepped out and not measured. Ceorge Simpson cut out 220 yards on a straight track in 21. 1-osecs.. which is l-osee. better than the New Zealand record for a straight track. Tn the TOO yds. he covered the distance in 0 4-ssecs.. equalling the New Zealand record. Kiser, who is still suffering from the effects of the sea voyage ran a mile in 4mins. 31 secs., and the 440 in 52 3-osecs.
W. Brady, of Wellington, the Dominion high jump champion also made an appearance, making a jump of sft. lOins., while in the pole vault, he cleared Oft. lOins.. both ol which heights have never before "been done on the ground. The conditions were ideal, the day being fine with verv little wind. The attendance was 1,200 which is the largest that has ever been present at an athletic meeting in Hawke’s Bay.
