AS FEDERAL TREASURER
(Australian Press Association.) ! Received 8.55 a.in.) CAN BERRA, January 20. There is an important development of the Federal political sphere, Cabinet having agreed to invite .\lr 'I heodore to resume the Treasureship. .Mr Scullm submitted a recommendation to this effect for the caucus approval.
A decision is unlikely before midnight.
It is understood il .Air Theodore is reinstated, the Senate will immediately adopt a. hostile, attitude to legislation sponsored by him. and a crisis is inevitable.
CANBERRA, January 20. The caucus approved of Air Theodore’s re-admission to the Federal Ministry. Air Seullin in a statement, said lie had never believed him guilty of the Mungana frauds, and regarded the delay in prosecuting him most unwarranted. The Federal Government needed his services in the Herculean task straightening out the National finance.
MR THEODORE'S REINSTATMENT VARIOUS STATEMENTS. CANBERRA, Jan. 27. “ ft is keen disappointment to mo on my return that although more than six months elapsed since Mr Theodore resigned, civil proceedings against him had not come before the Courts of the Commonwealth. The Government and the country as a whole want the services of Air Theodore in the present j difficulties. The extraordinary delay in dealing with the ease was entirely unwarranted. The Federal Parliamentary Party endorses my opinion.” The Deputy-Leader of the Opposition (Mr Gullett), commenting on the reinstatement, said “ The Seullin Government lias broken many records, and has now established a new standard in public life. Further comment is unnecessary.”
A newspaper, “The Pictorial,” says; “ The motion for Air Theodore’s admission was carried by 24 to 19 votes. AD' Fenton wanted to resign as a rehn no to do so, at least until the lin not to do so, at leastuntil the Party meets again on February 18th.”
MR THEODORE SHORTLY TAKES UP HIS DUTIES. CANBERRA, Jan. 27. Air J. H. Seullin lias announced that Air Theodore will shortly takes up his duties again at the Treasury.
