; NEW' YORK,: January 25. ‘Regarding the “Josephine K” shooting, the Coastguard have report, ed that' the value of the liquor cargo that they have seized was 250 thousand dollars.
The Coastguard have arrested nineteen men, including the crews of the barge and v Jhfef tug,? which belonged’to local shipping organisation, and who arei believed l Jo be: ; ! co-operating in liquor smuggling without the knowledge of their owners.
The ' British boat is said to have been known to have been running rum for a long time past, but she had never before been caught.
Those who were shelled have not yet testified ; (but the local Coast Guard Commandant stated: “There is no doubt that the “Josephine K” was within the twelve miles limit.” He praised th© unidentified cutter captain for-his handling of the situation, and said that the firing of the shot which killed^'Captain” Cluett was entirely justified. He considered that it was certain that the Canadian Government would request, an explanation, as in the “I’m Alone” case, as cabled on April stlr 1929. The only version of the “Josephine K” case vet available is that of the Coast Guard officers.
