MASS MEETING

FREE FIGHT ENDS PROCEEDINGS

BERLIN, Jan. 25

A free fight ended a mass meeting of several thousands at the east end arranged for open discussion by Nazis and Communists. The latter’s spokesman opened the debate, and at the conclusion of his speech a large bodyguard escorted him to his comrades. ° Goebels, the Nazi leader, on attempting to reply was immediately shouted down, which was a breach of promise of ,the Prussian Communists deputy who arranged the meeting. Pandemonium broke out, assailants fighting with fists, beer-mugs and chair-legs.

The police, hidden behind curtains and in adjoining rooms, dashed in and plied their truncheons. Over a hundred were injured, including many women. Many arrests were made.
