The second wool sale of the season here opened this morning. The catalogue was 20,883 bales. The allocation was 25.000 bales. This is the first sale this season where the allocation lias been exceeded. Fine wools formed a large proportion of the offerings. The wool generally shows the effects of the dry weather. There was a full attendance of buyers and bidding was fairly keen up to certain points.
Dominion woollen mills secured most of the highest- quality tine wools. Up to eleven-pence, the highest price reached at this season’s sales, was paid for five bales of Rvdale Downs corriedale flip, and ten pence for another clip. The general run of the wool offered did not however, reach the average prices realised at (lie December sale and was down about ijd to one penny per U). There were few withdrawals and the passings during the first catalogue were about nine per cent. " CURISTCHUECII. January 26.
Top prices during the 'forenoon were Merino lOd; C'orriedale lid; half-bred y;ifl j three-quarter lived (id ; cross-bred ■Lid, Corriedale pieces Bid; half-bred pieces fil'd : cross-bred pieces 2}d; crutchings 2fjd, and locks 2.1 d.
The indications are for moderate northerly winds and I I'esheiiing. Expect warm and sultry weather with increasing haze and cloudiness, and later milt probable. Barometer falling slowly, Seas and tides moderate.
