WASHINGTON, Januarv 24
Chairman Woods, of the Presidential Unemployment Committee, has announced that complications on the basis of the life insurance statistics indfcate that there were from 4.500,000"t*i five million unemployed in the United State during the first week in December, equal to ten per cent, of the ber. equal to ten per cent, of those gainfully employed. ‘‘l nken as a whole, this confirms the conviction concerning the existence ol serious unemployment,” the report states.
A MILLION DESTITUTE.

FRANCE’S UNEMPLOYED.

The unemployed in France receiving the Government benefit increased last week by five thousand, making the total 22,464, while the trades unions give the total c'f unemployed as three hundred thousand.
