HASTINGS, January 24

Shortly after leaving Hastings 1 for Auckland this morning, the Southern Cross Junior plane developed engine trouble of a minor nature, and the three machines 1 returned to 1 the Hastings aerodrome.

Leaving his famous machine at Hastings for repairs, Guy Menzies took off in Captain Barlow’s Canterbury plane in company with Captain Mercer at half past ten, for Auckland. Repairs were subsequently effected to the Southern Cross' Junior, and Captain Barlow took off in it for Wellington, later in the morning, arriving'at Wellington at two p.nii

CRASH AT AUCKLAND.

AUCKLAND, January 25

A moth machine piloted' by E. ML Firth, crashed from a height of eighty feet at the Aero Club’s display yesterday, landing on its wheels. The inachinf was . ctamaged'to an extent of aibout £SOO, but the pilot escaped injury. It is thought that the crash was caused by a faulty petrol tap. The pilot managed to avoid the spectators by landing in an adjacent paddock.
