EXCHANGE RATES. (By Telegraph— Per Press Association.* AVF.LTJNGTON. .January 19. Tn consequence of the latest increase in exchange rates New Zealand on London as announced by the banks, the surcharge on freight prepaid in New Zealand on general cargo has been increased from 5 to 71 per cent, and a similar increase will be made on passage moneys paid in New Zealand. The surcharge does not apply to freight on refrigerated cargo, the rates for 'which are fixed hr existing con-, tracts. The surcharge of 7j- per cent operates immediately, and is made subject to fluctuations in the rate of exchange.
