After ten hours of fruitless negotiations at Manchester, the Ministry <f

Labour proposed that work should be resumed at the cotton mills at which the stoppages have occurred over the proposal to operate more looms to each weaver. The Alinistry proposed that the lock-out notices should be postponed. Both the weavers and the employers rejected the proposal.

There is to be a lock-out of 250 thousand operatives. It begins tomorrow.

LOCK-OUT STARTED. LONDON, January 17

Despite the Ministry of Labour’s efforts to avoid a stoppage of the cotton industry in Lancashire, the employees have started a lock-out in the manufacturing section. It began at noon to-day.

Over two hundred thousand operatives are rendered idle by the lock-out. The cotton industry will be at a standstill failing an immediate settlement.
