Robert Hector Peak, as the result of a police raid on bis conteetioiicr’s shop in Moles\vortli Street, was to-day fined £3O for bookmaking, . although the police alleged that lie was doing substantial business in bets, Peak said the business was small aiid that he was acting lor another bookmaker on a commission basis.
SERIES OF THEFTS. BY COUNTY INSPECTOR. AUCKLAND, January 15. Pleading guilty to a series of charges of theft of 'sums of money totalling Clod belonging to the Manuka County Council, Charles Norman Clark, aged 47, formerly an Inspector employed by the Council, appeared at tire Police Court, when he was remanded in custody until Saturday morning for sentence.

At the inquest, William Archibald Billing said that bis wife bad been in perfect health. lie left home in the morning,on returning from work alter five o’clock, lie found his wife lying on the bedroom floor, fully clothed.
