NEW YORK, January 8. New York city was disturbed all day to-day by' the activities of the Communists. The agitators were endeavouring to seek converts among the unemployed. / Peaceful groups of the unemployed * at the bread lines and at the charity centres, were troubled by tlie agitators, against whom the police battled with orders “not to let the unemployed to become Reds.” The Communists at the Salvation Army bread line in Central New York were the cause of a considerable riot, in which one policeman was attacked and was injured., ' In Brooklyn Borough, a Police Commander, aided only by one Police Lieutenant, held off a mob of the Reds with their bare fists, and frustrated .the attempt to smash; the doors of the /' Salvation Army headquarters there. J ■ Police reserves, ; were assigned ~to\, \, night to protect the. relief agencies which, during the. day was , impeded in providing relief for ,the unemployed,
