CHINESE BANDITS

LARGE NUMBER WIPED OUT, [United Press Association. —Isy Electrw Telegraph .—Copyright. ] HONG KONG, January 8. A message from the Chief of Staff at the Fouth Chinese Naval Headquarters from Hoihow, Hainan Island, states that a large number of bandits have been destroyed and others have been captured, and that the locality is now completely cleared, and peace restored. This message follows the urgent despatch of British and American warships some weeks ago in response to an appeal to protect the British and American missionaries there.
