ERUA MURDER

INQUEST OPENED

TAUMARUNUI, January 7

The inquest on Mrs Anderson was opened before Mr J. Maher J.P. and a jury at one o’clock to-day. The . first witness called at first gave her name as .Mrs Colston, and tl|en commenced to weep, and said: “My name is Lillian Edith Tolley. 1 am a married woman living apart from my husband.” Witness then, gave evidence that she identified the body as that of ner sister, Alice Rose Florence Anderson. Deceased was a widow, aged 35 years. The inquest was adjourned sine die.

TAUMARUNUI, January 7

Detective Walsh left Wanganui at 3.30 yesterday afternoon, and arrived at National Park at seven o’clock last evening. He was met by Sergeant Sivyer, of Tauniarunui and immediately made inquiries regarding the death of Airs Anderson. Detective Walsh then came to Taumarumii arriving there at three o’clock this morning. Charles C'olston was charged before Mr J. Maher, J.P., at the Police Court this morning, with the murder of Alice \nderson, at Erua. Detective Walsh asked for a remand to Auckland on January 16. This, was granted. “ The' police" are unable to give any details regarding what happened on the farm, after the boy went for assistance.

THE COLSTON FAMILY

WELLINGTON, January 7

When Colston appeared at the Court this morning, he was asked if he had any objection to a remand being applied for by the detective. He answered “No.”

It is stated that Charles Colston, Mrs Colston, Ernest Colston (aged 16), Phyllis Cd It son (aged 13), Jack Storr (aged 16) and a child four years old were reisding on the farm at the time of the tragedyh ; . The youth Storr gave the alarm to the stationmaster, alleging that he saw Coltson. chase and fire shots at the girl Phyllis Colston.
