After ‘ the nineteenth, however,' better weather set in and Christinas week was the wannest period experienced so JJar this summer and almost perfect weather continuing from then 'to the close of the month. Owing to cdldncss and low rainfall the growth of vegetation was again backward apd’ small fruit was slow in ripening. In the hill country on .the East- Coast districts especially grass oh which stock was grazing, made little headway. On' the other hand a warm dry spell towards the close of. the month enabled farmers to harvest hay crops under favourable conditions. . Generally the stock have kept in good condition. The rainfall was below the. average over the whole Dominion except at a few places in the extreme of the South Island.
