PANAMA REVOLUTION
A NEW GOVERNMENT. I United Preilfi Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright, j PANAMA CITY, January 2. A sudden revolt early to-day overthrew the Government of President Arosemena and the capital of the republic passed into the hands of a revolutionary junta beaded by Harmadio Arias, a lawyer. Ten persons were killed and a score wounded in the fighting about the Palace and police station. President Arosemena this, afternoon resigned, naming Senor Anas to form a Cabinet. The Panama Supreme Court appointed Senor Arias (President of the Bar Association), as bead of the Provisional Government, and as “Secretary fo the Government and Justice, in charge of the Government.” . A manifesto signed by representative citizens, was issued as a pledge of the revolutionaries to respect all international obligations.
WHEN THE RISING BEGAN. PANAMA CITY. January 2. In the revolt, the revolutionaries, who are youthful ones, rose against the Government at three o’clock in the morning. They captured President Arosemena. and proclaimed a provisional regime. President Arosemena is how in rebel hands.
As the Presidential Palace fell, the hostilities centred around the Central Police Station as well as the palace. The loyal Federal Police Force met the insurrectionists with machine gun fire, hut they were unable to prevail against them.
