THE PAPAL STATE
COINAGE ISSUED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, January 2. "The Time’s,” Rome correspondent says the Pope has promulgated a law authorising its own coinage, including one hundred lire gold pieces, of which tile number will not be limited, but only ten thousand pounds sterling worth of silver, nickel, and copper coins will he issued in 1931. The gold pieces hear the Pope’s bust on the obverse and the figure “Christ the King,” with sceptre and orb, on the reverse. The silver ten lire and five lire pieces show the Rope’s bust on the obverse, with the Virgin as “Queen of Peace’ ’and Saint Peter steering the ship ol the Church, on the reverse respectively. The majority of the .remainder bear the Pupal arms together with the Good Shepherd, Saint .Michael, Saint Peter and St. Raul. All of tile Vatican State coins are negotiable throughout Italy. A special issue dated 1929 is appearing to commemorate the Papal Jubilee and Italian Treaty recognising the Papal State. The sale of which issue is calculated to tiring in £13,000.
