The IYA Orchestra Octet under the direction of Mr H. Baxter, will this evening, provide a programme including the suite, “Three Famous Pictures” hv Wood. Miss E. Smithson, a young singer, is making her first appearance at this station. The Bohemian Due will appear in Popular Vocal and instrumental numbers, while Mr A. Wright, bass-baritone, will give a group of bright songs. Another singer from 2YA, Miss P. Martin, will be heard in several ballads. Appearing in the vaudeville programme at 2YA, will be the Lyric Male Voice Quartet, Madlle, Pol a. Shea, Mr Lad Haywood and Mr Lcn Ashton, incidental music being supplied by the Salon Orchestra. The Four Rascals will provide forty minutes of 3Y A’s variety programme. Their items will comprise vocal and instrumental music, patter and humour. Also on the programme will be Mr E. Withers, Mr .1. Woodhnm and Mr A. Hodgson, in clarinet, month organ and banjolin solos respectively. Two excellent vocalists will also be contributing-—Miss Monica O’Connell (a talented young soprano) and Mrs A. Graham. 4YA’s studio programme will be provided by Miss D. Dagg (soprano), Miss S. McCready (contralto), Mr J. B. Hamilton (tenor), Mr Wilfred Iverhnw (bass) and recitations bv Miss Anita Bowler. Featured on the programme will he tlie Novelty Syncopaters who will present popular melodies. A saxophone solo will be played by Mr J. Mc-Cnw.
MONDAY, JANUARY sth A lecure-recital entitled “Old English Song” will occupy the major portion of 2Y.\’s programme this evening. The speaker will be Airs Daisy Basham and she will lie assisted by the Ariel Singers. In keeping with the theme of the lecture, the Orcliestrina, under Signor A. P. Truda, has selected an excellent programme of instrumental music. With “01,d Glory,” the Christchurch Municipal Band under Conductor J. Noble will open 3YA’s pro gramme. Other numbers will be a selection “Knight Errant,” a group of community songs, the hymn “Nearer My God to Thee.” the fantasia “Normanhurst.” a foxtrot and the march “Old Nrihility.” A popular vocal programme will supplement the band items, the vocalists being Mrs F. O'. Vaughan (soprano). Airs Rhys Morgan (mezzo-contralto). Air Oliver boote (tenor) and Air A. E. Hobbs (baritone). The Kenz Orpheans. playing popular melodies, will supply the basis of~4YA’» programme and set the tune for an evening of much variety. The vocalists will he Aliss D. Yond (soprano), AI. Somerville (contralto), Air J. B. Hamilton (tenor) and Air R. B. McDonald (bass), with elocutionary items by. Aliss Isobel M’Gregor. A trumpet solo will be contributed by Air AY. Tate and a banjo solo by Air M’Neil. Silent day at IYA.
