YACHTSMAN BURNED

NELSON, Dec. 30

A holiday maker named Ramsay, a member of a party on the Wellington yacht Marangi, which is at Catherine’s Cove, D’Urville Island, had an accident with a benzine stove bn tlie yacht, and was badly burned about the arms. The injured man was brought to Nelson- by a launch and taken to the hospital. His condition is not serious.

A few minutes after being seen on Petone. beach yesterday afternoon, the body of Ernest Godfrey Tyler was taken from the water. Tyler who was a married man, aged thirty-one, resided at 60 Heretaunga Street, Petone, and when the fatality occurred was at the eastern extremity of Petone. foreshore. He had been in the water with some children and was seen on the sand a few minutes before, he was found in the water. Artificial respiration was tried by several people, but without success.

CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 2

Driving along Pages Road at 1.30 yesterday a motorist ran into a stationary motor cycle on which were a man and girl the latter on the pillion seat. The machine was carried thirty feet by the impact and the girl whs thrown off but the driver of the car never slackened sped. A motor cyclist nearby" chased the car but its lights were put out. The motor cyclist managed to catch it after travelling at 50 miles' an hour, but lie was ridden into a gutter by the driver, who swerved over a's the motor cyclist tried to get in front. The girl was hospitalled and her condition is not serious.

PHOSPHATE SHIP SAILS. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 2.

The phosphate ship “June” left Lyttelton at 10.5 a.m. yesterday for Dutiedin leaving behind several members of the crew, who’allege that the food provided on the trip to Nauru last month was of an inferior sort. The “June” was to have sailed on Wednesday but the crew refused to work and some walked off the ship.
