VALEDICTORY

lliere was a large gathering of friends well over fifty in number at the Masonic Hall room last evening gathered together to say farewell to -Mr Jules Keller, who has been transferred to the Wellington branch of the National Bank.

Mi- Frank McGregor presided and those present represented all sporting interests in which the guest of the evening had taken a. prominent.-part tennis, football and cricket.

The evening proved a most enjoyable one. The catering was in the hands °f Dowell "of the Rendezvous, who provided a capital spread. Songs and (speeches passed away a pleasant three hours before the gathering concluded.

The Chairman in proposing; tlx toast of the evening referred to the general regret felt at the departure ■of Mr Keller, who had taken a keen interest in various sports, and who had won a large circle of friends. Ho wais a native of Hokitika, and was a worthy representative to go forth and one whom they all wished well. On helm I i of his many friends he extended their very hest of good wishes for the future and asked acceptance of a well filled wallet as a (small token of the esteem in which he was held.

The guest was received in a rapturous manner on rising to respond and feelingly acknowledged the kind refercnees and generous gift, which 1m deeply appreciated, expressing his keen regret at leaving such a wide circle of friends of his boyhood and wishing them all 'well in the future. Various other toasts were honoured, and were internersed with song?, the gathering concluding shortly after midnight with “Auld Lang Syne.” 'Mr Keller loft this morning for Wellington travelling by motor ear via Blenheim.
