TIDAL WAVE
FOLLOWS QUAKE IN MELANESIA. (A mtralian Press Association.) SYDNEY, December 30. The Amalgamated Wireless Coy. has received a radio message from its Manus Station, in New Guinea, saying that the steamer “Duris” felt an earthquake on the morning of December 24th, arid that a tidal wave struck the Western Islands. It had a height of eight feet at Awinn, and of four feet at Polluluhri. Houses and cattle at Awinn were washed to sea. The manager and hoys there escaped by climbing the palm trees. They are now living on the beach. 'Hie fate of Matty and Ana, a small unprotected Allison Island, is unknown. 'Pile direction of the tidal wave was from the south-past.
