NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS
Last January, Timkius swore a solemn oath he’d try To improve his mode of living on tire year that had gone by; He’d rise in time to do his daily dozen ’ere he ate His good old British breakfast: and he’d nevermore be late On weekdays for his office work; on Sundays when the bell Was calling him to worship, he’d never take a spell But would turn up bright and early; he’d join the choral throng; At practices and services he’d sing both loud and long. In February, once or twice, he .seemed to find it hard That others’ consciences allowed what his own conscience barred. Tn March, he and his conscience together fell asleep On several occasions, till lie near began to weep. Tn April, May and June increased the deepness of his fall, And later months showed certainly he’s not improved at all. December here made very clear resolves and vows were nought; Oh, take warning from Timkins, if you’re any kind of sport. A New Year resolution’s but a feeble kind of tiling Unless it lives right through the year and past the ensuing spring. If vow you must, make little vows, and keep them without fail ; And your spratling resolution may live to he a whale. H.J.W.K.
