Removing part of the track near Plipiao Station ,on the i.Vking-Aluk-den railway, bandits derailed the train and the locomotive exploded, the train catching fire. Many third-class passengers were burned to death. Two stokers and two officials were killed and scores -seriously injured. AVliile the flames were raging the bandits ransacked the train carrying off ninety merchants for ransom and releasing some who were poor. The outrage is considered the worst that has ever occurred on Chinese railways. The deaths totals one hundred The mails were also stolen.
