CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 30

The New Zealand tennis championships were continued. The weather was fine but it was cooler. The morning play was confined mostly to junior events. The principal semi-finals will be played in the afternoon. Results.—Junior mixed doubles, second round.—Miss G-i Banders and Reid beat Miss Ritchie and Bell by default.

Girl’s singles, semi-finals.—Miss N. Bishop beat Miss N. Howe 6 —4, 6—5; Mias C. Reese beat Miss T. Poole 3—6, 6—2, 6—4.

Boys singles, final.—N, Davys ’(Wellington) beat A. A. Mao Gibbon (North Otago) 6—o, 6—2. Intermediate men’s final.—-R. A. Court (Otago) beat A. R.. Cant (Canterbury) 7—5, I—6, 6—3. Combined doubles, third round.— Airs Adams and D. G. France bent Miss Myers and Lamp© 2—6, 9—7, 6—2.

Court the winner of the Intermediate final was educated at Rugby, England. He won the English junior championship in 1927. He has been in 'New Zealand for the past two years and is farming at Roxburgh, Otago.

He defeated Cant of Canterbury by greater steadiness and accuracy especially in good length driving and judgment of openings.

Cant who is promising, was more aggressive but erred too often in the return service. ,

Davys. aged 17 years, had not the slightest trouble in annexing the boys championship. He has o delightful easy swinging style and is already master of courternft. He is a. pupil at a, private school in Wellington. Davys did not lose a. set in this event and should develop into a champion when he joins senior ranks, as he has reach as well as skill and agility.
