BUTTER MARKET
•fSTOttCr MUCH REDUCED. f Piess.Assboiatioii— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) 4 LONDON, December 28. ' The butter market had quite a good little spurt of activity during the three biisihess days of this week, ahd prices, firmed by a shilling or two all round. One factor contributing to the improvement was the unfortunate loss of tlie steamer Oberon, as she was carrying oyer three thousand cases of Finnish .Witter, and the absence of this from the northern markets had a hiirdfening effect. The consumptive .leiriaiid throughout the country remains good. The Empire Marketing Board’s report says: “Stored stocks, which six months, ago amounted to nearly 1,200,000 boxes, have now been reduced to 276,000, which is less by approximately 91.000 thati the stocks of a year ago. ‘‘The importers are gratified at the success of their propaganda function at the docks, in which the Lord Mayor of London participated. It received much publicity in the newspapers, and motion pictures of it were shown ail over the country for several days, so- that - millions of people must have learned that Australian and New Zealand butter was obtainable here. This sliould certainly stimulate the demand.’’.
