LATE LOCALS.

The Municipal , Band during their rounds playing Carols on Christmas morning collected £52 3s 6cT.

Advice has been received of the death of .Dorrean, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Watson, of Durban, South Africa, (and formerly of Kuniara), after a long illness.

A meeting of the Unemployment Committee was held at the Town Hall this forenoon. Present The Mayor (Mr Perry), Messrs E. W. Heenan, .!>. 4. Evans, H. Harvey, A. C. Armstrong, and M. MeGavin. Mr Coles reported on actions to date which were approved. The appointment of. Messrs fDitely and O’Neil (farmers’ representatives) and Messrs Harvey and MeGavin (Labour representative;-;) were approved. Mr Coles reported seven men had. been put on under the No. 2 scheme, and there were several applications for work. The sum of £45 was available as subsidy out of the second grant for any additional work offering by residents or farmers. Some enquiries were received, and Mr C'oles advised information as to work. Messrs Perry. Heenan and Coles were appointed an executive to deal promptly with any applications received for labour. The present authority holds only for next month and those requiring labour for special work should forward early applications to Mr Coloe.
