STEAMER’S S.O.S.

IN THE TASMAN. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 28. The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department received the following message at 3.20 p.m.:—“S.S. Cabarita, latitude 40.11 a, longtitude 149.6£ east has sent an alarm signal and advised of a boiler mishap, and requested ships in the vicinity to stand by. The ship’s boilers have burst. The Talune is hastning to her assistance and expects to arrive at 9 p.m. i The Talune advised Hobart that no thing has been heard of the Cabarita since 3.21 p.m., New Zealand time, following advice received from the radio at Aw r arua in reference to the S.S. Cabarita mishap. * The following message was sent from the Talune to Hobart radio at 10.44 p.m. on the 27th:—“Just passed the Cabarita and 0.K.”
