AUCKLAND, December 24. “The public should suspend judgment until they have the opportunity of viewing the pictures,” said Sir Alfrd Bankart this morning, when asked on his return from England, if he had any comment to make on the criticism levelled •by Miss Copeland and Air APCracken, a New Zealander resident in Scotland, in respect to the pic tures purchased.' for the Al’Kelvie Trust in the Auckland Art Gallery. “1 have not seen all the pictures myself,” Sir Alfred said, “but I am sure when the public see the pictures I have viewed they will be very agreeably surprised. “Some of the statemnts I have seen are utter nonsense,” he added. “Some thing like a hundred pictures were bought. Different people naturally have different opinions. AVe will hold a .special exhibition, possibly in February, if we can obtain a gallery, and the public, who alter all arc the best judges, will have an opportunity of passing their opinion on the purchases that have been made.”
