NATIONAL CREDIT
INVOLVED BY JUDGMENT. United Press Association—-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. ] LONDON, December 24. “The New South Wales judgment is an incident in a big political struggle involving the credit, not merely of a State, Imt of Australia,” .says the .“Morning Post.” “We do not know if the people of New South Wales aie deeply attached to their Upper House If they resemble the people of England they probably, will be thankful for some sort of bulwark between them and the freaks and follies of democracy, and if it be said that ail impoverished Australian state is in no condition to support two Houses, it mignt he n matter of debate which the people would prefer to lose. “Mr La rig will probably attempt to appeal to the Supreme Court ,of Australia, though why he should shirk the way out offered by the judgment is difficult to" understand if be really wants to govern by the will of the people.” The judgment caused some surprise in Government circles. However, the only comment is to to the effect that it now becomes entirely a domestic affair with New South Wales. Tt has brien taken out of the British Government’s hands, and the State Governor, Sir Phillip Game, will not be involved unless the High Court upsets the judgment, in which , case it will rest with him to approach his Majesty for the Royal -assent.
