WORKER FOUND DROWNED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association. AIASTERTON, December 22. The body of a middle-aged man was found in the AYliareama River at Tinui to-day. According to a certificate of unemployment found in a pocket it is that of John Watson, care of Public Works, Whakataki. The body apparently had been in the water about two weeks. An open verdict was returned today at the inquest on the death of Arthur Charles Gunther, a Borough employee, who was found dead in a whare on Sunday evening with a gas fire turned on, but not lit. There was no direct evidence to show whether death was accidental or not, and testimony was given that deceased was a healthy man of cheerful disposition, a good worker, and showed no suicidal tendencies. With the toes of one foot caught ill the steering wheel and his body suspended over the side of his car, Adjuant McKenzie, officer in charge of tho New Plymouth Salvation Army, was injured about the head, shoulders, and chest as the result of a motor collision. Springing from the driver’s seat when he saw a collision was imminent with a fish van, he had attempted to jump over the wheel on to the road. Hi.s car was struck side on by the van, the lamps of which left an impression on two doors. The car was pushed twenty feet before it stopped.
