BIRTHDAY BOMIa. tI.S.A. MILLIONAIRE KILLED CHLCAGO, December 8. Opening a parcel delivered into his own hands as a birthday present, Tony May, the “millionaire newsboy,” was killed on the spot when the “present” exploded. The parcel bore the label of a mailorder house, and contained a bomb 13 inches land nng 3 inches wide, it was so arranged that it was sure to explode when the lid was lifted. The blast was so terriffic that May’s home was wrecked. x'ony May came from Italy at the age of ten. He prospered so exceedingly that he became owner of hundreds of select news stands. He became also a money-lender and professional bondsman. He lost £15,000 when Jack Johnson, former heavy-weight boxing champion, “jumped” his bond.
SURVEY BY AIR. COAST OF LABRADOR. LONDON, December 13. Mr Edward Waldo Forbes, an American scientist and museum director, who at present is at Oxford, proposes to take his own 20-ton yacht and an aeroplane to the coast of Labrador. He hag invited Mr N, E, Odell, who was the geologist with General Bruce’s Everest expedition and Major Cotton, an Australian airman, to accompany him, Major Cotton previously has had ex. perience In spotting seals from the air in Labrador, Sir Wilfred Grenfell, thle famous Labrador physician, who has done much for the health of fishing folk, told the Royal Empire Society that Mr Forbe s is also giving £IOOO towards the expenses, and that others have promises to bring aeroplanes. They hoped to meet on the northern coast of Labrador and complete a survey He was advised they could cover 600 miles a day. They wanted to survey 5000, miles including the coast.and the fringe of islands.
