A SERIOUS FIRE

Damage, estimated, at over twenty thousand, sterling, was caused fey a fire in Broadway, Newmarket, this morning, Tim fire arose in the premises of Hutchinson Bids.) provision merchants, whose building was destroyed together with the : adjoining Teed and Bull’s block, in which the following had business,—Stormonts (bakers), H. J. Bull (ironmonger),’ Mrs Rennie (ladies’ outfitter), David Teed Ltd., (chemists), Miss Grose (dressmaker), Mr Becker leg (solicitor), and Dr Fraser Hurst. ' The fire started in a storeroom containing paint and varnishes. A high wind was blowing. Teed and Bull s building was an old wooden one. Firemen had great difficulty in saving the other buildings in the vicinity. , The city brigade was called into help. ■ The insurances are.—Hutchinson’s building £5,600 on the stock, fitting.; £2)400'; Teed and Bull’s Ibuilding, £3,285, Teed’s, stock £2,700, Bull’s £2,500; Rennie’s £325.
