From to-day continuing until Christmas, all the YA stations will he on the air daily at noon. There will he no silent days. This extension of hours will' increase radio dealers’ facilities for demonstrating sets to buyers of Christmas gifts.
There will be a variety of artists to be heard from IYA this evening. Misses Edna and Phyllis Tye (vocal and piano solos), Frank Wade and his Melody Boys (always very popular with their instrumental and vocal items and instrumental imitations), Mr S. Hislop (popular bass-baritone) Miss Aimee Clapham (contralto, singing some popular ballads), and Mr and Mrs ,T. W. Bailey (sketch artists). A gramophone lecture-recital to be given by Mr Karl Atkinson will be entitled “Living Master Pianists.”
The Wellington Orpheus Musical Society assisted by the 2YA Orchestrion will give a studio concert of outstanding merit from 2YA. An item of more than passing interest will be “Ootea-Roa,” an ode in chorus form bv Mr Carr, the President of:the Sooietv. Other choral numbers will he “If Fortune Had Made me the Master” (by Bach), the part songs “Sleen Gentle Lady,” and “Oh, Tell Me Where,” and a group of spa chanties sung by Mr Farison Cook and the male members of the choir. At 9 o’clock from 2Y\. the eminent English elocutionist and Dickensian artist. Mr Clement May. will give the first of a series of four recitals.
The instrumental portion of 3YA’s urogram mo will he orovided by the New Brighton Municina.l Band, under Mr J. Nuttall. Soprano songs by Miss Eveline Hill, contralto solos hv Miss Bond, tenor and baritone soles by Mr W. J. Bisoblager and Mr P. Francis Jones rosnoetivelv, with humorous items hv Mr Denvs flow. wiH constitute the vocal portion of the programme.
A courtesy concert to be given by the combined musical societies of Dunedin to Mr James Coombs, the retiring conductor of the Dunedin Orchestral Society, will he broadcast on relax* fro'” the Dunedin Town Hall hv 4YA. Mr Coombs fourde-1 this sori-tv over 40 years ago and ever since has been connected with it. He has been a very able conductor. A concert worthy of the occasion is to he presented hv manv lo r, a! societies, includf]r<> Rovfil Dunedin Male Choir, the Dii,oral Society, t’m Returned Sohlics’ Association, the Philharmonic Society, tlie Orchestral Society and the Council of the Society of Piofeslsional Musicians of Otago. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 16th. Dr. Phillips, the President of the Auckland Division of the New Zealand Society of Professional Teachers of Music has organised lYA’s programme for this evening. He occupies a very high place as a teacher of both voice proaiiction and piano in Auckland city and is organist and choirmaster of All Saints’ Church, Ponsonby. A concert to be given in the Wellington Town Hall by tlie "Wellington Symphony Orchestra in aid of the Christmas Appeal by the Mayor of Wellington, will be broadcast by 2YA. This appeal is to raise funds to help brighten the lot of poor people at Christinas time. During the evening there will be a talk by the Mayor, Mr G. A. Troup. A musical programme of exceptional merit has been arranged. Mrs Wilifred Andrews and Signor Lucien Ceasaroni will sing, and Mr Leon d e Manny will play two violin solos. '
There will be plenty of variety in JYA’s programme, vocal solos, mouth organ selections, ocarino and English concertina solos, humorous numbers and items on the harp being included. 4YA has a band concert scheduled for this evening. One of the finest elocutionists in Dunedin, Mr D. E. Dali, will give Dickens sketches. Mr Dali possesses great dramatic ability and bis voice is well suited to the microphone. Mr and Mis Martindale will be beard in two duets and two solos. The other artists for this evening will l>e Miss Myra. Stokes (contralto) and Mr E. Robins (tenor).
