REVENUE DECREASE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON,, Dec. 13. ' Interviewed to-day ' regarding the financial position of the railways, tlie Minister, Mr Veitcli. said that, while the revenue showed a decrease, it was not due to any recent changes of policy or to the incidence of the increased tariff charges, as such matters had not yet had an opportunity to affect the (situation. The revenue fall was mainly due to the general depression and the large fall ivi importations. As the result of economies throughout the service, the expenditure showed a definite decline, and he hoped for a further improvement in the next few months. With one or two exceptions, all of the recommendations of a financial nature contained in tlie Royal effect to. Mr A'citch said that he had Commission’s report Had been given every reason to hope the financial returns of the Department would definitely indicate tliat every reasonable care and economy wap being practised.
“I earnestly hope,” he said, “that the public will suport their own transport system, and thereby assist the administration in its endeavour to improve the financial position of our railways.”
