DEFENCE • FORCE. DRASTIC REDUCTIONS. (By Telegraph—Per *Presß Association.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 14. Further drastic reductions are reported to be imminent in the Defence Force and it is expected that a number of the members of the permanent staff will receive notice to-morrow tfiat their services are no longer required. The details of the curtailment are not at present, available. The Minister of Defence, Air . Cob be, a fortnight ago was retice'nt when questioned about the impending changes, and no official statement of reduction lias yet been made. GLIDING ACCIDENT. HAMILTON, December 15. The inaugural flight of the Hamilton Gliding Club ended disastrously yesterday when a machine nose dived from a height of 30 feet. Jas. Hunter, the pilot-, aged 23, was badly bruised and shnklen. Failing to attempt to raise the machine by man power, it was hitched on to a motor truck. The machine rose, banked and fell to the ground with considerable force. j SHUNTER BADLY HURT. . ! FOUND SHOT. ,l "WELLINGTON, Dec. 15. With a 'shotgun beside him, a cheese maker, J. Knox, aged 26, was found in the bush, with a shot wound over the heart, about a mile from Mangarua dairy factory where he was employed. Early on Saturday evening an ambulance went fo Mangaroa to Airing the victim to the hospital but death occurred before the city was reached and the body was taken to the morgue.
