NO MONOPOLY. ' FOR AUSTRALIAN WIRELESS. (Australian Press Association) CANBERRA, December 13. The Acting Federal Treasurer, Hon. Air Lyons, explains in the Federal House of Commonwealth’s refusal to adopt the wireless agreement. He said this provided that Amalgamated -Wireless Limited should assume control over the terminals in Australia, for all of the overseas traffic, whether it was routed by cable or by wireless. The Government did not consider it was in the interests of the nation to permit this to he done, and the parties have been notified accordingly.

The 'Council of Churches accepted a challenge to offer an alternative scheme to the proposed State lottery as ai means of raising funds to assist hospitals. Mr Lang promised a Council deputation to withhold legislation in legard to establishing a lottery if the Churches could raise the requjred amount by a direct appeal to 'the people. The Churches hope to raise half a million sterling. If the appeal fails, the lottery will be inaugurated. COMMUNISTS PROGRAMME, MELBOURNE, Dec. 15. Plans for mobilising unemployed were made a.t a Conference when revolutionary proposals were adopted at a m.eeting organised, by unemployed workers. The movement is the creation of the Communist Party. It is proposed to establish a defence corps a.nd holds mass demonstrations in all districts. Among the demands adopted by the Conference were: That the Government guarantee every worker irrespective of colour, sex or race, a job at a living wage: .that a seven hour day and five day week must be established in every industry without a reduction of wages; free lunches to all school children; right to strike and picket, and abolition of the tijSe of police against strikers, unemployed and working class demonstrations.
