THE RANGE OF PRICES

CHRISTCHURCH, December 12
At the first Christchurch' wool sale of .the present season to-day, the full bench of buyers represented Bradford, The Continent .and America, also local mills. The catalogue comprised 17,100 bales, and the wpol. opened up satisfactorily . considering the variable season. There wfere some very choice clipsj much light : in condition and there was a 'fair proportion of tender wool, due to the hard season. The bulk of the offering consisted of wool of 50 count-or, over,;/ The sale was firm at ‘relative North Island values, tlie higher range of prices being no more than the comparative value of the higher grade of wool. Tlie principal element in the market for ordinary wools was Germany, one representative dominating the competition. Bradford bought with no more freedom than in the north, and America was practically out of the marker, The best wools went to the local mills. The top price o'f the sale was 9$ pence for seven bales of merino.. The beßt Corriedale price was 9d. Following is the official range of prices: Merino64—7o, 60—64: Extra super to-9d, super 7sd to B*d, average 6Jd to 7id, inferior 4d to sid. CorriedaleSuper 7jd to 9d, average 6d to 7d, inferior 4d to ssd. Fine Halfbred, 58—56: Extra super Bid to 9d, super 7i dto BJd, average 3jd to 7fd, inferior 5d to 6d.
Medium Halfbred 50—56 and 50; Extra super 8d to Bid, super 7d to 7fd, average sfd to 63d, inferior 4£d to sd.
Coarse Halfbred 48—50: Super 6jd to inferior '4d to 4^d. Fine. Crossbreds, 46—48: Super 5Jd to 6-ld, average 4id to SJ-d, inferior 3J-d to 4Jd. Medium Crossbred, 44—46: Average 4d to 4ijd, inferior 3d to 3sd. Coarse Crossbred, 40—44 : Average 33d to 4jd, inferior 3d to 3-id. Bellies and Pieces: Merino, good to super 5d to s’d, merino low to medium 4d to 43d.. Bellies: Halfbred, good to super 4d to sd; halfbred low to medium, 3d to 3fd. Pieces: Halfbred, good to super 5d to 7f,d; halfbred low to medium 2id to Bellies and Pieces: Crossbred, good to super 31(1 to 4Jd, crossbred low to medium ljd to 2d.
