DROWNED DURING SWIMMING LESSON. ;By Telegraph—Press Association) PALMERSTON N., Dec. 10,

A drowning tragedy occurred near Komako settlement, Pohangina valley this morning, Miss E. Dorn me tt, sohool teacher, aged 23, and a pupil, Vernon Charles Ferguson, aged 9, losing their Jives.. The only eye witnesses were three other school children When the school assembled this morning only four pupils were present. Near inidday, the teacher suggested a swimming lesson in the Back Wash River, containing water over six feet deep. At the time of the mishap, the other children stated, she was teaching ' Ferguson to swim. They were not taking particular notice. The first warping of /the tragedy was when they saw Miss Dommett fall a,nd float down into the rapids. Ferguson had dropped into the deep wat er from her arms.

As the children could do nothing, one hastened for help, and the others went after the teachc-r, whom they dragged out unconscious some distance down the stream. Nearby settlers were on the scene as soon as possible. They got the boy out of the,/ hole They tried artificial respiration, but it was not successful.
