JOBS IN CANADA. RELIEF FOR UNEMPLOYED. VANCOUVER, October 27. Believing trade depression, now felt the world over, can best be met by a Dominion-wide movement to provide jobs, the Dominion Government, cooperating with the* governments of the provinces and the authorities of a large' number of municipalities, lias 'attached an aggressive and extensive plan of public works. Under this scheme all municipalities and provinces, as well as tlie Dominion Government, are to start as soon as possible public works, which under normal conditions would not be attempted for some time. In all these works the Dominion Government will pay one-third of the cost as a relief grant; the provinces another third, and the municipalities the balance. As a consequence a large number of bridges, highways and public buildings are being constructed. In addition, the Dominion and Provincial Governments themselves are carrying out all public projects• possible. The two great Canadian railways have joined in the movement, and are pushing extension, of branch lines and replacement of ties and rails. The Canadian national system is planning to spend £2.200,000 in this con n notion.
