The state Government have decided to await developments in the move to abolish the Legislative Council and not to prepare dean.to plans lor future action. Cabinet expects both Bills with which the abolition of the,Council is to be effected, will pass all stages by Thursday. WHEAT DAMAGE. SYDNEY, December 9. Torrential rain in the southern wheat belt of New South Wales came at an inopportune time. Not only have some of the heaviest crops been badly battered, but the wheat is likely to be bleached. Hay lying in the fields is damaged and probably will be blackened and deteriorated. LOAN APPLICATIONS. „ SYDNEY, December 9. Up to Saturday 17,500 applications amounting to £11,157,000 sterling were made for the Commonwealth loan. Leading business men and citizens at a meeting with Lord Mayor Marks, decided to appeal to retailers, manufactures and traders to invest next Friday’s turnover in the loan. BANNED ITALIANS. CANBERRA, December 9, It is learned thate the Minister ot Home Affairs, Mr Blakeley, referred the matter of the banned entry of Italians to Mr Sou Bin, with a .suggestion that he confer with the Italian Government. 48 HOUR WEEK. PERTH, December 9. An increase from forty-four to fortyeight hours a week for railway workers was granted by the State Arb.tration Court on the application of the Government. A FIRE. PERTH, December 9. Five buildings were destroyed by fire at Bruce Rock, 172 miles from Perth. The damage is estimated at ten thousand sterling. There were no fire facilities in the town.
