NELSON PRISONERS

RECAPTURE AT TAKAKA

NELSON, December 5

On Thursday afternoon two prisoners effected their escape from the Nelson gaol. They were Leslie Sea ley and Ronald Edward Morrison. Sea ley is 31 years of age, sft 4jin in height, of fair complexion and brown hair, blue eyes, both his forearms being tattooed. Morrison is 18 years old, and sft 7-J-in in height, of fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, short nose and wide mouth, and lias a small mole on the left side of his neck. On their escape the men stole a Jordan tliree-seater car, painted dark grey, its registration number being 104-847, and its engine number 889189. Hie car was the property of Charles Hodgson. Roth escapees were waiting sentence by the Supreme Court.

The car stolen at Nelson last evening, was discovered abandoned on the side of the road beyond Takaka, early this morning.

The jewellery store and two shops at Takaka were broken into, and the goods stolen included £3OO worth of jewellery, a quantity of clothing and provision. The esapnd prisoners have been recaptured. FURTHER PARTICULAR S. NELSON, December 5. Leslie Sealey and Ronald Edward Morrison, who escaped from custody at Nelson late yesterday afternoon, were recaptured between Takaka and Collingwood this afternoon. The car which disappeared from Seymour Avenue, in Nelson, last evening. lias also been secured undamaged. A telegraph linesman, Harold Homan. saw (he two men at Puramahoi, six miles from Takaka this morning. Homan, who recognised Morrison, was on duty and tapped the wires, thus informing the Takaka and Collingwood police. The Nelson police officers had all of the arterial roads watched, and the prisoners were trapped between Collingwood and Takaka. Three premises were broken into at Takaka early this morning. One was the jewellery shop of H. J. Thomson and about £3OO worth of goods arcmissing from there.

From Kirk an dCo.’s premises, a couple of cases of benzine were taken, while cheese, biscuits and a quantity of drapery vanished from Wadsworth's shop. Some unauthorised persons also visited the wharf. i
