United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copy right. ]
(Received this day at 11 a.m.) DELHI, December 3
There lias been some caustic comment on the barn door cricket as played by Hobbs and Sutcliffe, following their stolid exhibitions in Calcutta. Both adopted “Johnny won’t hit to-day” tactics, at Bangalore Hobbs batted nearly an hour aud ahalf for thirty-eight and then retired. Sutcliffe after two and) a-quarter hours play unfinished made 06 in the first innings, both were run out when Hobbs was forty-six and Sutcliffe two. It is felt that England’s first cricket pair are not giving of their best, possibly at the Maharaj of Kamnr’s orders as Vigianagram, wants to win the matches.
In Calcutta when asked why be scored only 5 in an hour, Hobbs replied that he was playing to orders just as he was accustomed to do for a County.
