POWER BOARD DEFERS IT
(Bv Telegraph—Press Association)
TE AROHA. December 2
To-day the Thames Valley Power Board considered, in committee, the question of effecting economies by various means, including a reduction in salaries. The Chairman. Mr F. M. Strange, later made a statement to the press in which, lie said that it was decided to take no action at present, but the whole position would be reviewed in February next. The Chairman said that the costs of administration in the Thames Valley Board were the lowest in the Dominion, with the exception of Hawke’s Bay. which sold most of its current in bulk to Napier and Hastings. The Board took the view that, as most of the employees were protected by an award, it would be unfair to start economies by reducing the salaries of those without protection, bringing the payment down in the higher branches to less than the wages of the ordinary labourers. Tt held that if salaries and wages are to be reduced, it should be general and that tbe Government should take the initiative.
