SOLICITOR ARRESTED
ON EVE OF TRIP
OVER STATE ADVANCES APPLICATION.

WELLINGTON, Dec. 2.
Arrested in the act of boarding the Monowai for San Francisco this afternoon, Brian Dunnington, a solicitor of Auckland, aged 23, had a holiday trip which lie and his wife were taking brought to an unexpected end. He was brought before Mir McNeil, S.M., and was immediately charged with in April, 1929, aiding and abetting Ernest Cedric Chappell and Doris Fordyce Chappell to make a declaration that would have amounted to perjury, if it had been made, on oath in judicial proceedings. The declaration concerned a supported application for a loan from the State Advances Department. The accused said he had a strong defence to the charge, which, he lmd no doubt, would bo withdrawn, as soon as he returned to Auckland. He had a return ticket, and had announced two months ago his intention of taking a holiday in America, Bail was granted, £3OO self, and one surety of £3OO. Suppression of the name was refused.
