SHIP DESERTER I *.
CHARGED AFTER TWO YEARS

BLENHEIAf, December 2.
Charged at the Police Court with deserting from the ship Kni Ora at Wellington on Afay ,14, 1928, a man named Owen Derrick, aged -11 years, pleaded guilty. The charge was an unusual one for Blenheim, and the accused’s appearance here was accounted for by the fact that lie was arrested at Wharaniu. Sergeant Petersen mentioned that the Shipping Coy did not want the man back. He added that police costs totalling £3 Os 6d had been incurred,* and the accussed was in a position to pay. Derrick was convicted and fined £2, plus £3 0s 6d costs,
SOLICITOR’S THEFT
WANGANUI. Dec. 3
A well known solicitor, Frank Fabian Wills, surrendered voluntarily to the police this morning and was charged with the theft of £470, the property of William Palmer. He was remanded till December" 10th. Bail was allowed in self of £3OO and two sureties of £l5O.
