BRITISH AGRICULTURE. The practice of dairy-farming on a small scale is extending, and the haymaking industry apparently flourishes in Britain, but these are both forms of farming that can be carried on with a limited amount of hired labour. Where the extensive employment- of labour is required the- British farmer finds that he is {seriously handicapped in any effort to compete with the Continental producer, since the scale of wages is lower and thehours of work are longer abroad than in Great Britain, The practical effect of this iff that the British farmer has in many cases dropped out of the competition.
